"We felt really well taken care of, in every detail. Great welcome, great mountains, great folks and fantastic things to see and do: spot wildlife on the mountain slopes while sitting by the campfire, reach amazingly beautiful valleys, swim in ice-cold lakes (our daughter remembers that vividly, she had so much fun), and eat great food. We hope to be back to experience the same mountains under the snow sometime." ~ Anne from France

Pine Lakes Camp 3 day / 2 night adventure
Trailheads entering the Eagle Cap Wilderness from the north are crowded thoroughfares and offer little chance for solitude, but from Cornucopia Wilderness Pack Station in the south, you can travel all day without meeting anyone and camp near a high mountain lake that you will usually have all to yourself.
Seven miles from Cornucopia, nestled in a bowl, high in the mountains, sit Pine Lakes, two alpine jewels separated by only a few yards and filled with voracious brook trout that attack almost any lure. We'll pack you, your food, and your personal gear to our camp that's already set up and waiting for you. All the necessary camp equipment--the tents, stoves, lanterns, and other essential camping equipment--is provided.

Mother-Daughter Weekend
Leave the hustle and bustle behind you and join us for a weekend of truly getting away.
Imagine a weekend of relaxing in the beautiful Eagle Cap Wilderness riding the trails,
and looking at breathtaking scenery you won’t see anywhere else. And yes, someone else
will do all the work!
You'll arrive on Friday and be matched to a horse that fits your skill level. All of our
horses have been dude horses for years and are very gentle. After some basic instruction
in wilderness horseback riding, you are off on your first adventure. Bring your camera,
and be prepared to see both the elk and deer that call the Eagle Caps home.
Arriving at camp, you are welcome to sit around the campfire with something cold while
your cook prepares dinner. Saturday morning will start off with a hearty breakfast and
packing a sack lunch, then you're in the very capable hands of your guide to spend most
of the day riding.
Eat your lunch by a cool mountain stream, rest and relax. You will get back to camp
where dinner will be waiting with songs and s'mores around the campfire. On Sunday
after breakfast, mothers and daughters will ride back to base camp with their guide, enjoy
a light lunch and then drive home.

Cornucopia adventures with your own horses
You are more than welcome to bring your own horses for your stay at Cornucopia Lodge or in one of the cabins. Call ahead for more details, but there are few better places for wilderness riding. You can stay the night in the lodge or a cabin, and then ride out the next day along trails into Eagle Cap Wilderness, including the Pine Lakes trail that climbs to timberline and incredible views of the Wallowa Mountains from Nip Pass or Tuck Pass on the ridge above the lakes. Other trails take you deep into those same mountains.
This is the southern side of the Wallowa Mountains and Eagle Cap Wilderness, the less crowded side where you really can get away from it all. For further information about Eagle Cap and the Wallowas, visit our sister site at wallowamountainoutfitters.com.

Cornucopia basecamp for backpacking adventure
Cornucopia Lodge is a good spot for trailhead parking for backpacking trips in the southern Wallowa Mountains. The trails that lead into Eagle Cap Wilderness are all challenging mountain adventures and offer ample opportunity for high mountain experience without the crowds found on the north side of the range at trailheads near Joseph. You can hike up and over Nip and Tuck passes into the heart of the wilderness after a soul refreshing climb up a classic mountain valley to Pine Lakes from the Lodge. If you camp at Pine Lakes, you can cross Nip Pass the next mornning to complete the loop back to the Lodge where you can stay the night before driving home.
One other major trail leaving from the lodge climbs up along Simmons Creek and drops down to Norway Creek, eventually leading to the Imnaha River in the heart of Eagle Cap Wilderness. Be advised, of course, that extended backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains is best done by experienced hikers with proper gear, but one great advantage to hiking in from Cornucopia Lodge is having a terrific basecamp at the trailhead. You can reserve a room in the Lodge or one of the cabins for the start and end of your trip. You don't have to worry about the drive out to Baker City for a motel or a long drive home the day you end your hike. You'll have a comfortable place to stay at the end of the day where you can shower, sort your gear, and rest for the night.
