Extended Wilderness Adventures

If you'd like a longer journey into the Wallowa Mountains or Hells Canyon, if you like the beauty and challenge of horseback or hiking adventures in one of America's wildest corners, choose one of the extended trips listed below.

They're all operated by our sister company, Cornucopia Wilderness Pack Station.

For detailed information and reservations, visit cornucopiapackstation.com. But you're welcome, of course, to begin or end your adventure with a stay in Cornucopia Lodge.

The Sourdough Special. The Sourdough Special is an adventure beginning the first day with a ride from the Main Eagle trailhead to your base camp. On other days you will ride to different locations where you might fish in a lake, hike to an abandoned mine, or just spend the time relaxing around the campfire. These trips are designed to show you the best Eagle Cap Wilderness has to offer. Click Sourdough Special to learn more.

The Chief Joseph. The Chief Joseph is truly a once in a lifetime adventure. You will travel by horse through the Eagle Cap Wilderness from camp to camp and change camps every other day. You ride along high mountain trails, over mountain passes, and camp beside alpine lakes and streams. Click Chief Joseph to learn more.

Hells Canyon in Springtime. A few days spent in Hells Canyon in the summer will have you believing you've died and ended up in the wrong place. But Hells Canyon in the spring is a totally different story. The canyon hillsides are a lush green and littered with wildflowers of all colors. Sightings of deer and herds of elk are common, and it's not unusual to spy a bear or even mountain goats. Click Hells Canyon to learn more.

The Mountaineer. Picture yourself at 8,000 ft. riding over a mountain pass and looking down on three crystal clear alpine lakes. This is just part of a typical Mountaineer Trip. You'll ride along rugged high mountain trails under snow capped granite peaks and set up camp next to your own private lake or stream. After a day to explore your surroundings, you'll pack up and move on to another remote site. Click The Mountaineer to learn more.

Main Eagle Camp. Main Eagle meadows are located high in a classic U-shaped valley formed by ancient glaciers; the valley is walled on both sides by beautiful high granite peaks and ridges. Half a dozen nearby lakes offer excellent fishing for trout and Mackinaw. Click Main Eagle to learn more.

Fisherman Special. Are you tired of arriving at your favorite fishing hole only to find someone is already there? We will pack you twelve miles into the wilderness to our camp on the wild Imnaha River. The crystal clear headwaters of the Imnaha River are home to trout over thirty inches long. You will usually have miles of prime fishing river all to yourself. Click Fisherman Special to learn more.

Hiker Support and Drop Camps. Cornucopia Wilderness Pack Station can haul your gear into a base camp from which you can climb mountains, hike, fish, or swim along the Minan, Imnaha, or Wallowa Rivers in country once traveled by Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, and Chief Joseph. And when you really have to get back to civilization, we'll bring your gear back out so you'll leave no trace. Hiker Support to learn more.
